Tesla will start installation of its gorgeous solar tiles ‘very soon’

Tesla isn’t a company that has been making innovative consumer products, honestly. They weren’t the first ones to have come up with electric cars or lithium-ion batteries, nor the solar panels; but what makes them successful, profitable and worthy of any tech enthusiast’s praise is their mastery of product design and vision. Elon Musk, co-founder and CEO Tesla Motors, has been putting up a lot of effort in revolutionizing environment-friendly technologies. First, it was the Tesla Motors; now, it’s the energy.

The latest awe-inspiring magnificence is the Tesla solar roof, which is basically going to be made up of Tesla solar tiles; gorgeous, brilliant-looking and perfectly-engineered solar shingles that are just like the normal roof tiles/stones, aesthetically.

For all those who had preordered, they were required to pay a $1000 deposit to Tesla. According to Tesla, the installation will begin soon in 2017. The new information on Tesla’s website emerged in August which showed company’s changed language:

When will my Solar Roof be installed?

Initial trial installations are complete and undergoing evaluation, customer installations are about to start and will ramp up through 2017.”

Elon Musk revealed that the installation trials for the Tesla solar tiles have complete and he and one of his executives have already got them installed on their respective properties. The end result is just amazing if you have seen the video that displays beautiful Tesla solar tiles on Musk’s property.

Should you get Tesla Solar Roof?

Well, that totally depends on your priorities. Just like not everyone is getting Tesla’s vehicles, not everyone is going to get the solar tiles on their roof. The first reason is undoubtedly the price. With the initial calculations at our disposal, it could take anywhere between $70,000 to $100,000 which is quite a lot more expensive than a standard asphalt roof replacement.

But it’s not just the price that matters for some. When spending so much, any homeowner would want to know about the performance, durability, and warranties associated with Tesla’s solar technology, and interestingly, no such information has been made public, except for Elon Musk saying that the solar tiles will pay off in the form of hefty energy savings.

But if you are thinking that Tesla has competitors for their solar shingles, you are kind of wrong then. Elon Musk made the distinction clear between Tesla solar shingles and other solar shingles available on the market:

“It’s not a thing on the roof. It is the roof.” Unlike other solar shingles, Tesla’s roof tiles are designed to completely replace your existing roof. As a result, the most cost-effective way to install them is when your home is being built, which means that they are best suited for home buyers who have a say in the design and materials of their newly constructed home.”

But don’t think that they can’t be installed on an existing roof; he only implied that from a savings point.

If you aren’t certain that you should be getting the Tesla solar roof or not, it’s important that you try a solar calculator to understand how much you could be saving by going solar.
