It’s not something new – Poshmark and The RealReal are already doing it; verifying the luxury handbags that are being sold online, allowing the online buyers to have the confirmation that they aren’t spending thousands of dollars on a Thailand or Chinese handbag. eBay is third on the list to provide such service, but the good thing is, if you are high-end handbags seller on eBay, you can get your handbags verified directly with the eBay rather than some third party.
The service covers handbags that are worth more than $500 and produced by Chanel, Celine, Burberry, Balenciaga, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Christian Dior, Fendi, Valentino, and Prada. But the service doesn’t come without a price. The good news, however, is that eBay is charging a “reasonable” service charge of 20% of the final price (when compared with 30-45% of The RealReal, it’s actually cheaper).
This is how it’s done.
- Luxury handbags sellers send their item to eBay for free via FedEx.
- eBay verifies the authenticity of the bag.
- eBay takes care of the rest.
While this service is cheaper than The RealReal, it’s at par with Poshmark.
From the buyer’s perspective, they don’t only get a handbag with “Authenticity Verified” label but also 200 percent money back guarantee.
The service is available on the aforementioned handbags brands only for now but it will be extended to other brand and items next year.
For anyone who uses the service before January 31st, 2018, they will get 90 percent of the selling price instead of only 80 percent.
