The year 2017 has been the greatest year for the horror-movie fans. Not just because of the fact that it has been one of the worst Hollywood summers but also because we got to see some great horror stuff. And not just the horror movies, but it has been a crazy year for horror games too. We will stick to the movies only for this post.
#1. IT #2. Annabelle: Creation #3. Get Out
If you didn’t get the time to catch up on all of the horror movies of 2017 and now you want to know where to begin, we have picked up our top 3 horror flicks for this year.
IT just came out just a while ago, and we want to talk about how it has been the best horror movie of 2017 so far. The movie is still in the theatres and has already topped $500 million. That’s a pretty big figure for any horror movie. Even some of the most iconic horror movies like Silence of the Lambs, Resident Evil: Retribution, Blair Witch Project, Jaws, The Exorcist, Hannibal, etc. weren’t able to reach the $500-million mark.
And while the box office figures do actually matter because they generally represent how the movie was received, it’s the movie itself that really matters for the horror movie fans. There are so many horror movies that haven’t made big at the box office but they have really fueled our nightmares.
About IT, it’s oddly strange. It’s a movie that tickles your nightmarish apparitions. The movie is about a town that’s been haunted by a creepy clown that devours on the meat of kids but targets only those who are vulnerable. The whole movie is about how “IT” manages to grab hold of every child’s vulnerabilities and turn them into real-life apparitions.
There are different spooky elements about the movie and that’s why you will be on the edge of your seats throughout those two hours. It’s definitely worth a watch especially because it gives you the feeling of a classic US horror movie with a beautiful, creepy setting of the 80s.
The movie is still in cinemas so make sure you go and watch it. Don’t wait for the DVD because it’s going to take a while for that to happen.
2. Annabelle: Creation
The Conjuring’s overwhelming success opened doors to more spin-offs and all of them were well received by the audience. This year, Annabelle: Creation hit the cinemas and it hit right on our nightmares. The Conjuring and its spin-offs entail the perfect 70s setting with a remote haunted house and crazy stuff that really takes you to the verge of something very peculiar. Also, with Annabelle: Creation, The Conjuring franchise was also able to hit an aggregate $1 billion at the box office.
If you have heard that Annabelle: Creation isn’t that good of a movie, you have heard it totally wrong.
The movie explains how the doll was possessed and continued to haunt others’ lives. It starts with a few orphan children who need a new place to live as their last orphanage was shut down. They were able to find a new home with a family who had lost their daughter and now, they were all alone with a big house and doll that was thought to be possessed. But least they knew that the evil spirit was waiting for the right time. The evil residing within the Annabelle doll doesn’t want a doll to live in anymore; it wants a human soul and body. It targets the vulnerable as it’s easy to get into them. No more spoilers for you; put Annabelle: Creation on the list for the weekend. It’s one hell of a weekend horror flick.
And when you are done watching this, remember that that the The Nun is coming to the cinemas in 2018.
3. Get Out
We loved this film to the core. No blood, gore or scary shit, Get Out is the epitome of creepiness.
The movie is about an interracial couple (Black Guy and White Girl) who go to meet the girl’s family on a vacation, only to reveal that the Obama-loving family had a sinister agenda. Get Out has been acknowledged as one of the best thrillers of 2017. This Jordon Peele’s directorial debut has been absolutely stunning to watch. With a mere budget of $4.5 million, Get Out has been able to amass whopping $252.4 million so far. You really don’t want miss this one.
Bonus: Split 2017
Split 2017 was predictable and not very appalling but it includes one of the best performances from James McAvoy because it’s not just one or two characters that he had to play but 24 different characters.
The movie is about a guy with dissociative identity disorder but that’s not just about it. The movie looks into the possibility of how DID can actually lead to unique physical attributes for each personality; in fact, different physiological and physical attributes too.
We just gave you a big spoiler but you won’t figure it out until the end of the movie. So don’t worry about it; go watch Split 2017, it’s worth a watch.
We hope that you guys will watch all of these aforementioned movies if you love horror movies. The best part is that there’s a lot more coming in 2018 and many of them are anticipated to be a hit at the box office.
